Our Tutors

Cambridge Education and Training only registers tutors who can demonstrate that they have achieved a high in their own education ie. degree or above. All tutors must hold a current Enhanced CRB that is less than 3 years old, before they are fully registered. Each tutor has to provide the details of two referees who are contacted and asked to offer their views on the suitability of the applicant. Anyone who does not satisfy our criteria is not registered with the agency.

Qualifications
In order to teach students, the tutor must be able to demonstrate that they themselves are very knowledgeable in the area of study. Not only is having considerable subject knowledge important, but the ability to identify misconceptions is a vital skill of a teacher and all with this in mind, all of our tutors must have a teaching qualification and/or a degree in the subject they wish to tutor.

Enhanced CRB
All of our private tutors hold Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Disclosures (CRBs), or Enhanced Disclosure Scotland’s which we check very closely. The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is an executive agency of the Home Office which vets applications for people who want to work with children and vulnerable people.

References
CET contacts two referees for every tutor. Ideally one of these is someone who has worked with the applicant and one would be a character referee. Many of the work referees have worked with the tutor in a teaching environment so they can provide us with a valuable insight in to the way the tutor works with children. The character referee can also help us determine whether a tutor is suitable to work with children due to their characteristics.

Interview
The final stage of a tutor's registration involves a meeting with a member of the CET staff where they are able to provide additional background information and the agency can gain a greater insight into the types of tuition the tutor is wishing to undertake. If a tutor is wishing to tutor in their own home, the meeting will be arranged to take place in that location so that it can be assessed for its suitability for the purpose.

Once all of the checks have been completed and the agency feels that the tutor would meet its high standards, we would then consider that person ready to accept potential tutees.

Ongoing monitoring
We continually monitor the progress of all ongoing tuition to make sure it is a success. We ask all clients to submit a tutor feedback form in order to help us keep track of current tuition and ensure the tutors are reaching our high standards.
